Pattern & Symmetry
“…and there, in the midst of the light, they saw the ends of the chains of heaven let down from above: for this light is the belt of heaven, and holds together the circle of the universe.” – Plato
The word ‘mandala’ comes from the Sanskrit word ‘mandalam’, which means circle. Within various spiritual traditions these circular geometric artworks are often used as meditation aids or to depict an aspect of the higher realms or greater cosmic patterns – a circular enclosure of sacred space organised around a unifying centre.
The coloured mandalas are watercolour and metal leaf over a giclee print of the original pen and ink drawing.
